Out with the old, in with the new

Indulge me for just a few moments and trip back in time.

It's the summer of 2005; It's damn hot in Toronto and the air conditioner is wheezing but my second floor office is still an oven. I'm building my web site, pitbullmedia.ca with Microsoft Front Page.

At this point, guys like me either haven't heard of Facebook and it's not the phenomenon it is today. There is no RSS of note and mobile browsing isn't part of the lexicon either.

My web site, I decided, will be about me, my work and what I do for fun. I'll have all kinds of content about mobile phones, soccer, things that interest me, samples of my work and pictures, lots and lots of pictures.

And for the first couple of months that was fine. Later I add a blog because, well, everyone's blogging and it seem the thing to do. Then I get busy earning a living and realize, I have no time to keep up the web site, the blog and this new obsession with online dating and this even worse jones for this thing called Facebook.

Something has to give and I abandon updating my own web site and blog and Facebook becomes my main vehicle.  I feel guilty and embarassed. Me. A tech journalist and web guy can't even maintain his own site.

 The shame.

Flash forward and here we are at the new site, this one built with the assistance of my collaborator Jayeson Earl and a platform I've come to work with, called Joomla!

We've got an RSS feed pulling stories with media and technology angle down the side, a slideshow to add visual interest and advertise what it is I can do for clients and a place for me to blog, rant, post and observe on issues of professional interest.

The personal stuff is all going to stay on Facebook where it belongs.

This site, then, is a place for me to talk about what I do, what I think about developments in the world of technology, business, media and politics, to showcase my work as it is published or broadcast and to give prospective clients an idea about what kind of services I can offer them.

I hope you like it.
